For cleaning after lime scales we recommend to use Stromme Cement and Rust Remover, dilution ratio with fresh water 1:1 to 1:3.
Depending of the amount of residues to be removed, condition of cargo hold before loading and weather condition, we recommend to make small test areas to find the best chemical solution before cleaning.
First make a test on a small area with 1:3, 1:2 and 1:1 at different squares to see what dilution ratio will have the most economical and efficient cleaning effect.
Note the Stromme Cement and Rust Remover has a low PH level and the Lime Wash has a PH level of 14. When applying Stromme Cement & Rust Remover on the cargo hold wall, the chemical reaction starts immediately. After 20-30 minutes the PH level of the Stromme Cement and Rust Remover will increase, and the effect will be limited. When the lime coating is thick, the treatment must be done 3-4 times. The stronger dilution ratio, the better effect. The reaction will be the same for all chemicals with low PH value.
The process will be a lot easier using Stromme Holdcoat FC serving the same purpose.
If the requirement is to use limewash, try to apply only on the tank top and 1 m up and Stromme Holdcoat FC on the walls. If the coating is for Sulphur, most of the limewash on the tank top will be gone and the cleaning will be a lot easier.
